This month sees the launch of Playgirl magazine in the U.K. But there will be a significant difference between the U.K. version and the original publication in the U.S.: the U.K. version will not contain any below-the-belt nudity.
“The U.K. version will only feature men topless from the waist up, as surveys of female readers have told us they do not want to see nudity and prefer to see a man’s eyes and chest,” a Playgirl spokeswoman said. A favorite with gay men, Playgirl estimates that up to half of its readership is male.
The monthly U.K. publication will feature a topless centerfold and contain entertainment news, columnists, beauty and fashion. The first issue hits the newsstands March 10 and is published by Playgirl Publishing, a new venture from Fire Publishing.
U.S. Playgirl was founded in 1973 as a feminist retort to Playboy magazine and has published pictures of erections and even cumshots, as well as features on abortion rights and other feminist issues.
