A reported deal made between Target Corp. and Lady Gaga was dissolved this past week due to Target’s donations in 2010 toward groups supporting candidates who were opposed to LGBT equality. The announcement was made this afternoon by the co-founder of Fly-Life marketing agency, Carmen Cacciatore.
Gaga was reported stating to Billboard in February that the relationship between her and the company was heavily rooted in the support towards the gay community, and their efforts towards redeeming the mistakes they made in supporting those groups.
With the foundation of this relationship between Gaga and Target Corp. weakened by criticism in 2010 towards the company’s support of these groups, the deal was not set in stone. Bob Witeck of Witeck-Combs Communications told Metro Weekly, “Despite the expectation that this was all unfolding as a deal, it has been in a sensitive stage of continued discussion for probably the last three weeks.”
The details behind the deal being dissolved are not currently publicized. Witeck, regarding today’s announcement, said, “They wanted to make it public now. They decided it was important that people know there is no deal.” He goes on to state that he is very impressed with Gaga, and that she has remained true to her audience throughout the process. Gaga is a very proactive activist in the LGBT community.
