SAN DIEGO – The Hillcrest Business Association (HBA) and the Greater San Diego Business Association (GSDBA) Charitable Foundation are excited to continue the long standing tradition of Hillcrest’s Mardi Gras. The HBA is pleased to announce a new name and location for 2014.
“Hillcrest Fat Tuesday” will be held March 4, 2014 with a parade of floats which will assemble on Park Boulevard, continue down University to Vermont, and end at Tenth Street where the festivities will be staged.
The Hillcrest Mardi Gras was created to raise money for LGBT college student scholarships. The HBA and the GSDBA Charitable Foundation are pleased to keep with the long standing tradition in honor of the event’s founders Matt Ramon and the GSDBA Charitable Foundation. Proceeds from “Hillcrest Fat Tuesday” will be shared between the HBA and the GSDBA Charitable Foundation. The GSDBA Charitable Foundation share of the proceeds will be used for LGBT scholarships that will be jointly presented to students in conjunction with the HBA.
“We are very happy to move forward with the HBA and continue to provide scholarships to deserving LGBT college students and allies. In the last twelve years more than $125,000 in scholarships has been awarded as a result of this long standing event,” enthused Stampp Corbin, president of the GSDBA.
“This is great news for the Hillcrest community. The Hillcrest Business Association has a long history of producing successful community events including, Taste of Hillcrest, Taste N Tinis, the Pride of Hillcrest Block Party, Hillcrest CityFest and the Hillcrest Hoedown. Each of these events provides much needed funds for Hillcrest beautification projects and the new “Hillcrest Fat Tuesday” event will be no exception. In keeping with the tradition of the original founders of the event, we are happy to say that the GSDBA Charitable Foundation and the Hillcrest Business Association will continue to provide scholarships for LGBT youth in San Diego,” said Johnathan Hale, Hillcrest Business Association board president.
Beads, floats, live entertainment, Hillcrest fabulous food, an outdoor nightclub and much more will be the excitement at 2014 Hillcrest Fat Tuesday.
