Balboa Park History Stroll

Ever wonder how Balboa Park was named? What structures stood in various locations in 1915? Who were some of the individuals who helped shape the landscape and built environment, and what did they originally envision it to look like? Were the buildings in the Park today, copies or interpretations of real structures in other parts of the world? What elements changed to prepare the Park for the 2nd Exposition in 1935? Learn these trivia tidbits and more on this one hour walking tour along the Park’s main street, with offshoots to locales with forgotten stories to reveal. Museum staff and skilled docents lead this easy paced stroll through the Park revealing many of the intriguing aspects of its past, its endearing present, and exciting future.

Loretta Deczynski and Maurjo Reser Exhibit

Deczynski is a multi-media artist, who will exhibit paintings in pastel, colored pencil, watercolor and acrylic. She also has her miniature painting treasures on display. Reser received her inspiration from extensive travels throughout the historical southwest. She will be exhibiting in oil, acrylic and watercolor.

On the Fly: Technology Takes Off

This new exhibition will center on a demonstration presented throughout the day in the Fleet’s Main Gallery, using small-scale unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The demonstration provides an exciting visual display of choreographed UAVs. These UAVs use an electronic control system driven by computer software to guide their flight. On the Fly will include a number of ancillary exhibits that explore aerodynamics, including wind tubes and a state-of-the-art motorized airplane launcher, along with supplies and trained facilitators who will work with visitors to create their own flying objects with which to experiment.

Erwitt sees the dignity of the ankle-high Chihuahua; the anxiety of the homeless hound; and the joy of a homely but well-loved pug. In his vast range of emotion and his easy going but precise mastery of the abstract elements of composition, Elliott Erwitt holds the title as the Henri Cartier-Bresson of the canine world.
