SAN DIEGO – Democrat David Alvarez, San Diego City Councilmember and mayoral candidate, stood beside former Assemblymember Lori Saldaña today securing her endorsement for the San Diego mayor’s race.
Saldaña, who is currently chair of the San Diego Chapter of the Sierra Club, endorsed Alvarez, citing his history of fighting for neighborhoods.
“David’s commitment to standing up for our communities tells me he’s the best choice,” Saldaña said. “David has a strong record of supporting neighborhoods and protecting the environment, and San Diegans can count on him to do the same as Mayor.”
Alvarez thanked Saldaña for her support and contribution to San Diego’s neighborhoods.
“I’m extremely grateful to have Lori’s endorsement in my candidacy for Mayor,” said Alvarez. “She’s a strong leader, standing up for education, quality of life and a sustainable future for all of San Diego’s families.”
Growing up in Barrio Logan near an industrial area with a long history of environmental degradation, Alvarez faced industrial-residential conflicts and a lack parks and open spaces for families.
Alvarez’s commitment to fixing the poor conditions that he and so many other children have grown up in was evident in the passage of the Barrio Logan Community Plan Update yesterday. His leadership on a compromise on the Plan Update cleaned up incompatible land-uses in the neighborhood, creating a healthy buffer between residents and industrial areas, designated Chicano Park as a regional park and created a community village area in the neighborhood.
