SAN DIEGO – The 2013 AIDS Walk, Run & Street Challenge San Diego has added the Street Challenge as a new element to the 24th annual event, which will take place on Sunday, Sept. 29 in Balboa Park.
The Street Challenge is a 5K obstacle course through Marston Point in Balboa Park that will have three heats, beginning at 9 am, 9:30 am and 10 am. The ‘Street Challenge’ will feature obstacles especially created to test each participant’s strength, endurance, agility and quick thinking.
“Our goal is to make you laugh and sweat while you generously help raise funds for HIV/AIDS services in San Diego,” said Ian Johnson, coordinator for AIDS Walk, Run & Street Challenge San Diego. “I guarantee you’ll enjoy the combination of zany and boot-camp style obstacles that we have created for you and/or your team.
“We invite anyone who likes a fun physical challenge, and who’d like a new way to help support people affected by HIV in San Diego, to register for the AIDS Walk Street Challenge today,” Johnson added. “You’ll have a great time while doing a great thing for your community!”
To add to the fun, people competing in the Street Challenge obstacle course are encouraged to participate wearing the costume of their choice. Every participant will be evaluated by the Obstacle Course judges, and one individual and one team will be selected to take home the “Best Dressed” trophy.
A free and fun community event will take place on Thursday, Aug. 15 from 5-8 pm at The Center to showcase this new “Street Challenge.”
AIDS Walk, Run & Street Challenge is San Diego County’s largest one-day HIV/AIDS fundraiser, and last year helped deliver nearly $400,000 in grants to 10 local agencies.
In addition to providing much-needed funding for local HIV/AIDS service organizations that serve the approximately 12,500 people living with HIV in San Diego County, AIDS Walk helps raise awareness about the impact of HIV and AIDS.
