Lincoln Club of San Diego County to endorse Carl DeMaio for Congress

Carl DeMaio

It has come to the attention of San Diego LGBT Weekly that the Lincoln Club of San Diego County is set to endorse Carl DeMaio in his run against Congressman Scott Peters in the 52nd Congressional District.

In an email sent to supporters headed “Keep this secret” Lincoln Club Chairman Bill Lynch writes:

“I’m going to be at Carl DeMaio’s Congressional reception on Tuesday, June 25.  Can you join me?

I’m supporting Carl because we need his leadership on reform in Washington, and we need to keep his voice for reform active here locally.

At the same time, we need Carl at the top of the local ticket in 2014, because it will attract national funding and local enthusiasm to help us win our two target Council races.

So, please let me know: Can you stand with me June 25 to support Carl?

Let me know

Bill Lynch

Chairman of the Lincoln Club of San Diego County

PS: Please keep my endorsement of Carl a secret – we’ll be formally announcing it on June 24.

PPS: If you cannot join me and Carl on June 25, can you at least donate to Carl today?”

The Lincoln Club, a County-wide conservative political action committee with more than 300 members, has formidable financial muscle. In a 2012 profile on the Club,  San Diego CityBeat’s Kelly Davis wrote,

“If money equals power, the Lincoln Club wields it like no other local political organization. Its 400 members, whose annual dues provide a guaranteed source of money for the group’s political action committee, are a who’s-who of lobbyists, developers, Republican-backed elected officials (and their staff members) and high-profile business owners—the people behind Mossy Nissan, Jerome’s Furniture and Coles Carpets sit on the club chairman’s special advisory committee. Though the Lincoln Club describes itself as nonpartisan and focused on “pro-prosperity” candidates and issues, what and whom it chooses to support is almost always partisan.”
