Special Delivery receives grant from Thursday Club Juniors

SAN DIEGO — Special Delivery San Diego has announced that it has received a grant for more than $57,000 from The Thursday Club
Juniors.

“We are thrilled to receive this very generous award from such a wonderful local organization as The Thursday Club Juniors,” said Ruth Henricks, executive director. “This contribution will be used to help us continue our work of delivering nutritious meals to over 250
unduplicated men, women and children with AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, kidney disease and diabetes annually in 14 central San Diego neighborhoods.

In addition,” she continued, “this grant will help us to stock our onsite food pantry with many much-needed, nutrient-dense super foods.
In 2012, more than 1,000 San Diegans were served by our food pantry.”

The Thursday Club Juniors is a group of members of The Thursday Club. During the last 50 years, almost $2,000,000 has been raised by
The Thursday Club primarily through its annual rummage sale as well as its annual gala. For nearly 100 years, The Thursday Club has funded numerous San Diego charities and organizations including Balboa Park projects and museums.

Special Delivery has served more than 1.6 million meals to over 4,500 clients since its founding in 1991. Clients receive two cold meals
and one hot meal daily, groceries for the weekend as well as the ability to shop in the organization’s onsite food pantry.
