TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW/CNN) — A new paint job on a house across from Westboro Baptist Church is catching some attention.
A non-profit group called Planting Peace sponsored the project. The rainbow-colored painting of a home has been dubbed “The Equality House.” The group says it symbolizes equality, peace and change, now sporting the colors of the gay pride flag.
The house is located at 1200 SW Orleans street in Topeka, across the street from the Westboro Baptist Church, which strongly opposes homosexuality through protests.
Shawnee County Appraiser Mark Hixon tells 13 News the freshly painted home was purchased back in October for 81-thousand dollars by Awake Incorporated, which is associated with Planting Peace.
