San Diego Dances in University Heights
The PGK Dance Project presents its most interesting, challenging space yet. Mariachi Day
Celebrate Mariachi Day with San Diego Opera. Come down to the San Diego Civic Plaza as it turns into “Garibaldi Square” with a day of food, fun and performances by student mariachi groups including: Estrellas de Chula Vista, Montgomery High Aztecas, San Diego High School Mariachi Kokopelli, San Ysidro Mariachi and Mariachi Garibaldi of Southwestern College. San Diego Opera will be presenting the world’s first Mariachi opera Cruzar la Cara de la Luna ( To Cross the Face of the Moon ) at 2 and 7 p.m.

Repeat/Move On
The La Jolla Symphony & Chorus presents its fourth concert of the 58th season, Angle of Repose, inspired by Wallace Stegner’s 1971 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. The concert is titled Repeat/Move On, and provides a fascinating collage of opposites: Philip Glass, the American master of repeating phrases, paired with Aaron Copland’s flowing essay on eternal growth and renewal frame the rhythmic vitality of Bay Area composer Paul Dresher’s concerto for invented instruments. They also premiere this year’s Thomas Nee Commission by Yvonne Wu. A broad spectrum of music from the 20th century – from minimalism to rock-infused experimentalism.
