OCEANSIDE, Calif. – Max Disposti, executive director of the North County LGBTQ Resource center has received Oceanside’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award, the city announced today.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Service Award acknowledges outstanding community civic leaders. Disposti was given his award at a breakfast awards ceremony Monday.
Born in Rome, Disposti came to the USA in 1998. In January 2008, he founded the North County LGBT Coalition, a non-profit organization that increased LGBT visibility in the North San Diego community. After 4 years of hard work, an outpouring of community support, and with the help of a dedicated board of directors, the North County LGBTQ Resource Center was opened in 2011.
In 2010 Disposti was honored with the Harvey Milk Award by the San Diego LBGT Center, and in 2011 he became the recipient of the Heroes, Pioneers & Trailblazers award presented by the Lambda Archives, a nonprofit that preserves and teaches the history of the LGBT community. Last year, he was nominated Oceanside Citizen of the Year by the Oceanside Rotary Club and served as a member of the Oceanside Library Advisory Committee.
