San Diego Pride has donated $30,000 to The Center. A ceremonial check was presented at The Center’s annual Gala event this past Saturday evening. The success of the 2012 Pride celebration, America’s Pride, made it possible for Pride to make a large cash contribution in addition to its annual sponsorship of The Harvey Milk Breakfast, Children’s Garden, AIDS Walk and The Center Gala.
“It is with great pride that we are able to significantly increase our giving to such an outstanding organization this year,” said Dwayne Crenshaw, San Diego LGBT Pride executive director. “Pride isn’t just about throwing an incredible party once a year; it’s about honoring the legacy of struggles and successes our community has faced, and supporting the efforts to overcome the obstacles that still lie in our way. Supporting our local community center with revenues generated from Pride was a clear choice in achieving this goal.”
Dr. Delores Jacobs, CEO of The Center said, “We’re delighted to accept this very generous donation from San Diego LGBT Pride. Pride is an important part of our San Diego LGBT community and their support of The Center means a great deal. We look forward to an ongoing partnership, working together to make our community even better.”
Through the years San Diego LGBT Pride has donated approximately $1.5 million dollars to local LGBT-serving nonprofit organizations. The community’s generous support of San Diego Pride’s official festival in Balboa Park makes Pride’s donations possible.
“Here at Pride we like to say, ‘Pride isn’t just a weekend; it’s a way of life.’ We hope to continue the success of our events and community outreach so that we may expand our funding of the LGBT and allied communities for years to come,” said Crenshaw.
