Here’s an overview of some of the smaller, less publicized exhibitions happening in town that might be of interest.
The Women’s Museum of California has a new home. The organization that celebrates the experience and contributions of women began in a private home in Golden Hill back in the 1980s. Now it has settled into a new space amongst other arts and cultural organizations at Liberty Station. Check out their site at womensmuseumca.org for information about upcoming events including an exhibition of vintage clothing Oct. 1.
While you are at the NTC you might as well make the most of it and check out Visions Art Museum. The Visions Art Museum presents art quilts, fiber and textile exhibitions throughout the year. Up now is Insights, a juried exhibition of 12 quilts by the members of the Visions Critique Group. These artists meet once a month to discuss their work and exchange ideas. Insights is the third Visions exhibition from this group. The show runs concurrently with Tracing the Steps: The Diversity of Fiber, a presentation of new work by 17 artist members of California Fibers. San Diego is fortunate to have this museum. If you are interested in sculpture, fashion or art you should check it out.
Since you are already out in Point Loma you might as well make a day of it and head further west to the Cabrillo National Monument. History buffs should plan your visit for Saturday Sept. 22 so you can join World War II Living History re-enactors in the military history exhibit before touring a coast artillery bunker. nps.gov/cabr
September and October are the best months in San Diego as far as I am concerned. Enjoy the arts, enjoy the sun and make the most of America’s Finest City!
This text is very good. I’m a fan now.
