WASHINGTON – The Marine Corps has seen no ill-effects from the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Marine Corps Commandant James F. Amos confirmed this when he spoke at a recent National Press Club luncheon.
When asked by Theresa Werner, president of The National Press Club, why the integration of gays into the Marines had gone so well, the commandant responded, “I don’t think there is a problem. I don’t see it and I don’t hear about it …”
Amos, who had opposed the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell in congressional hearings in advance of the change went on to say, “I ‘m very proud on how this has all gone. I travel through the Corps and I get in front of the Marines often, as often as I can … I’ll be honest with you I never hear, I don’t even get a question; I don’t’ hear anything; I am not seeing anything at all … I am very pleased as to how its turned out. I’m very proud of the Marines.”
