Following an announcement in opposition of same-sex marriage by Dan Cathy, Chick-Fil-A president and chief executive officer, the National Organization for Marriage applauded the anti-gay statements in an effort to urge corporations to stay neutral on the matter, calling him a “corporate hero for marriage.”

When asked about his position on gay marriage in an interview at the Baptist Press, Cathy replied, “guilty as charged” and added, “I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about” in a separate interview.

The company has not been a stranger to anti-gay efforts and has earned headlines for being against gay rights for some time. Chick-Fil-As history of giving to anti-gay groups that advocate against equality have long been withstanding.
