“I am a great believer about timing and about magic,” says Neon Hitch, on the eve of her debut album release. “It’s all about timing and yeah, I feel it’s good right now.”
Hitch has waited a long time for this moment – she started writing songs as young as 10 years old – and if you believe the buzz in the music industry, it is going to be a truly magical summer for her.
She’s already gained fame with hit singles like “Bad Dog,” “Poisoned With Love” and “Fuck You Betta,” and a series of hip-hop cover videos where she put her unique spin to hit songs from Kreayshawn, Wiz Khalifa, Waka Flocka Flame and Mac Miller. Now, her musical career is about to explode with the much-anticipated release of her first solo album.
Before that, however, Hitch brings her unique style of sass and music to San Diego LGBT Pride, where local audiences are going to be the first to hear songs from her upcoming record.
“You’ll be hearing some brand new stuff,” she teased. “You’ll get a little sneaky peek.”
She performs at the Pride Block Party, Friday, July 20, and she promises a very interactive and entertaining good time.
“I bring the Neon Tribe,” she said about her live show. “I have my two djembe drummers. I make them go shirtless. They look super hot. I wear some crazy clothes and dance around and have fun.
“I usually jump into the crowd as well, because I like to do that. I like to involve the fans. I’ll either pull them up on stage or I’ll go dance with them,” she continued. “I don’t believe in a separation. I think we should all come together and party.”
Her concerts are just as exciting for her as for the audience. She even admits that an LGBT crowd is the best.
“Actually, my favorite place to perform is to my gay crowd,” she said. “They’re the most enthusiastic and I think I’m understood more in the gay scene. I think I’m quite misunderstood to some people, so I appreciate my gay fans a lot because they get me.”
And why is she misunderstood? “Because I am different,” she answered.
Following her San Diego performance, she plans to release one more single, called “Gold,” and finally her album release. Mixed in with her recording time, she’s still finding time to perform across the country.
“I am literally performing every day. I don’t even know where I am right now. I am on an airplane every day. I don’t even know what jetlag is. I am just always tired,” she joked. “But you know what: it’s a rock star lifestyle, and I am lovin’ it.
“I’m working very hard, and I hope I get to continue to do this. It’s really a blessing to do what I am doing, and seeing the fans react to the songs and sing along, it’s just the best feeling ever.”
Throughout her busy schedule, her wild performances and her playful music, Hitch always tries to share her message – a message that she says is appropriate for San Diego LGBT Pride. “I stand for freedom and girl power,” she said. “We all need to be free in this world.”
