White House honors military acceptance project as Champion of Change

The White House will honor the Military Acceptance Project Thursday for their work in the LGBT and military communities.  The ceremony is part of their Champions of Change Program that highlights individuals and organizations doing extraordinary things.  The event will be streamed live at www.whitehouse.gov/live with opening remarks from a senior White House official at 10:30AM ET and a panel discussion featuring the Military Acceptance Project at 11:15AM ET.

“We are humbled to be selected as a Champion of Change,” says Kristen Kavanaugh, Executive Director of the Military Acceptance Project, “This honor belongs as much to the LGBT service members, veterans and their families we serve as it does to us. We share it with them and believe it will do much to further the cause.”

“I am both honored and proud to be part of an organization that is working toward real and sustained progress in today’s military, and to be recognized as Champions of Change.” states Adam Christ, Navy Veteran. “It’s a true testament to our ongoing evolution in the United States that we now honor the contributions of LGBT service members when less than a year ago they had to serve in silence.”  Adam was one of the LGBT service members and veterans that were featured in the Military Acceptance Project’s submission to the White House’s LGBT Pride Month Video Challenge.
