In spirit of Pride month, the Israeli military posted a photo of two soldiers walking together while holding hands. The picture, which was posted on the official Israel Defense Forces Facebook page, reads, “It’s Pride Month. Did you know that the IDF treats all of its soldiers equally?”
The photo has already garnered 8,000 likes, 6,000 shares, and more than 1,000 comments.
Gays and lesbians have been allowed to serve openly in the IDF since 1993 as part of its anti-discrimination policy passed that year.
According to news source The Times of Israel, the photo was staged and that only one of the soldiers depicted is gay.
“The photo reflects the IDF’s open minded attitude towards soldiers of all sexual orientations,” a military spokesman told the Times. “The IDF respects the privacy of the soldiers featured in the photograph, and will not comment on their identities.”
