A story has appeared on an unnamed Web site claiming that Bruno Mars admitted he was gay during an interview with a Chicago radio station, perhaps as an April Fool’s Day joke. The star was quoted as saying in the mysterious interview, “The timing is bad. I hadn’t realized it was April Fool’s Day, but it’s been pointed out to me, and I don’t want to go too public with this.”
CNN’s iReport, which serves as a platform for “citizen journalists,” later picked up the story, running it with the headline, “Bruno Mars comes out of the Closet.” The short piece continued, “The famous pop-star Bruno Mars admits his homosexuality.”
But soon after CNN’s report went online, Mars’ rep spoke to the Web site Gossip Cop to correct the rumor. Mars’ rep said that the story was “false” and had been “completely fabricated.”
By coincidence Mars appears on the April cover of Playboy, illustrating their “Sex and Music issue.”
