Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) is reaching out to LGBT youth in a new ‘It Gets Better’ video where the Democratic National Committee’s chairwoman explains that teen bullying is only temporary.

“For anyone who is going through a tough time, for anyone who has been bullied or feels alone or different, it gets better,” says the Congresswoman. “Sometimes, it’s hard to see that what we’re going through won’t last forever. When we’re in a tough spot, it’s hard to imagine that there will ever be a time when it doesn’t feel like the world is crashing in on us.”

Wasserman Schultz has been an ally for the LGBT community, and has historically supported same-sex marriage and equal rights for all.

As for teen bullying, the Congresswoman tells youth she can relate in her own way, explaining, “When I was in school, I was teased mercilessly, all the time, about my curly hair. But now my hair is my signature look, and I wouldn’t change it for anyone, because it’s part of what makes me who I am.”

She added, “But things will always get better. They always do.”
