Top gov’t. officials slated to attend LGBT event

WASHINGTON – The White House LGBT Conference on Safe Schools and Communities will be held in Arlington, Texas Tuesday, March 20 and will feature remarks by Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. and White House Senior Advisor Valerie B. Jarrett. The conference will be hosted by the White House Office of Public Engagement (OPE) and the U.S. Department of Justice in partnership with the University of Texas at Arlington. Participants will receive important updates from senior administration officials from the Departments of Justice and Education and have the opportunity to learn about federal government resources and opportunities through workshop sessions.

The White House LGBT Conference on Safe Schools and Communities is part of a series of conferences that will be held around the country specifically focused on LGBT Americans. From February to June 2012, OPE will convene these White House LGBT conferences to provide grassroots leaders, community organizers, advocates, students, and interested citizens an opportunity to hear directly from the administration on their efforts to ensure health, well-being, security, justice and equality for LGBT Americans.

The White House LGBT Conference on Health was held in Philadelphia Thursday, Feb.16. The White House LGBT Conference on Housing and Homelessness was held in Detroit Friday, March 9. Future conferences will be held in other locations throughout the country and focus on topics including, but not limited to, aging, HIV/AIDS, families and international human rights.
