A new poll cited Monday by the Republican Party of San Diego County places mayoral hopeful Carl DeMaio at the top of list with a 25 percent lead compared to other Republican candidates. According to the survey, Congressman Bob Filner trails behind DeMaio with a 20 percent share of the vote, while State Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher and San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis are about 11 percent behind Filner, both vying to secure a third-place lead.
Chairman Tony Krvaric praised DeMaio for his contributions amid the organization’s endorsement of the mayoral hopeful.
“Carl DeMaio‘s track record of advocating for taxpayer-centered reforms in San Diego is unmatched by any other candidate in this race, which is why the elected members of the Republican Party of San Diego County recently voted by a more than two-thirds majority to endorse his candidacy for mayor,” said Krvaric.
According to the poll, 31 percent of those polled are unsure who they will support for Mayor.
The survey suggests that DeMaio’s lead may be due in part to his appeal to conservative voters including a slight lead with moderate voters against other Republican competitors in the race. The poll added that DeMaio’s appeal may also stem from his “firm grip on the city employee pension issue.”
“Placing the interests of taxpayers first and foremost is not a Republican or Democratic idea, but common sense which all San Diegans can agree with. To once again make San Diego ‘America’s Finest City’ we believe it is critical to elect Carl DeMaio mayor and will lift heaven and earth to do so,” Krvaric concluded.
