Kirk Cameron on homosexuality: ‘Unnatural… ultimately destructive’

Former Growing Pains star, Kirk Cameron, has some apologizing to do after the child actor called homosexuality “unnatural” and “ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization” in a television interview with Piers Morgan Friday.

“Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part,” Cameron said. “So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don’t think anyone else should either.”

Morgan disagreed with Cameron, rebutting, “”If one of my sons [came out], I’d say ‘that’s great, son, as long as you’re happy.”

GLAAD has predictably called for Cameron to apologize to the LGBT community for his anti-gay comments and has since launched a petition following Friday’s interview.

“With an increasing number of states recognizing marriage equality, Americans are seeing that marriage is about committed couples who want to make a lifelong promise to take care of and be responsible for each other and that gay and lesbian couples need equal security and legal protections. That’s not ‘redefining’ anything,” said Herndon Graddick, Senior Director of Programs at GLAAD.

Former co-stars Alan Thicke and Tracey Gold took to Twitter following Cameron’s anti-gay comments.

“I’m getting him some new books. The Old Testament simply can’t be expected to explain everything,” said Thicke.

On Sunday, Tracey Gold wrote “I am a strong supporter of the #LGBT Community, and I believe in equal rights for all. #NOH8 #LOVE”
