Brandon Morgan, a gay U.S. Marine who grew up in Oakdale, Calif., explains why his homecoming kiss – which went viral – is so important to the LGBT and ally community. Although met with comments ranging from support to hatred, the gay couple say the video, dubbed the “The kiss seen around the world,” has broken barriers.
“A homecoming kiss with a twist,” the reporter explains.
Despite the mainly positive support, Morgan’s mother says she is afraid of her son’s safety following the release of the photo. She added, “I didn’t think of it any way – whether it be good or bad or whatever – it’s just like ‘Thank God he made it home safe’ is the first thing [I thought],” said Morgan’s mother. “I think he is compassionate and caring… and any mother would be lucky to have a son like that.”
Morgan adds that the photo has helped others be truthful to who they are.
