Beethoven’s ‘Immortal Beloved

The San Diego Symphony presents Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 . Ludwig Van Beethoven considered his Symphony No. 7 one of his best works. Beethoven completed the seventh just weeks before writing the famous letter to his “Immortal Beloved,” presumed to be Antonie Brentano, in July 1812. This letter and, it’s now clear, that symphony marked the height of a passionately mutual love that had been brewing for years, but that ultimately was fated never to be consummated!

Steinunn Thórarinsdóttir is an Icelandic-born and internationally recognized sculptor who is celebrated for her use of cast iron, steel, aluminum and glass to create life-size figurative works. These anonymous-looking figures are often installed to feel as if they are part of the landscape where they are placed.

Although figurative, her forms have a deliberate lack of definition that is emphasized by her choice of materials and the sand casting method she employs.
