SAN DIEGO – San Diego District Attorney and Mayoral candidate Bonnie Dumanis released the following statement in response to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals opinion today finding Prop 8 unconstitutional.
“Today’s ruling is an important legal victory that finally brings Californians closer than ever to marriage equality in our state,” said Dumanis. “For those of us who were speaking out against Prop 8 when it was on the ballot four years ago, today’s ruling is a long-awaited legal affirmation upholding the constitutional rights of the LGBT community.”
Bonnie Dumanis is the first openly lesbian District Attorney in the United States and the first openly lesbian judge elected to the San Diego County Superior Court. In 2008, Dumanis worked to defeat Proposition 8, participating in a news conference to urge a ‘no’ vote on the proposition that included her spouse, Denise, Mayor Jerry Sanders and his daughter, Lisa.
“Mayor Sanders brought nationwide attention to the right to marry. A mayor dedicated to protecting rights can do much more than just fix potholes or balance the city’s books. A courageous mayor can make a true difference in people’s lives,” Dumanis said.
Oh please! Bonnie needs to save her emoting for her persecution of the Sweetwater 5 down in the South Bay. Those Democratic Hispanics are expendable and will be thrown under the bus to get publicity for Bonnie’s “educational reforms” that are little more than more bureaucratic mumbo-jumbo. The Dirty D.A. only embraces her lesbianism when it suits her politically, and then otherwise buries it away so as not to offend the mom-and-pop voters of San Diego. What a phony and hypocrite!
