TRENTON, N.J. – New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has nominated Bruce A. Harris for a seat on the state’s Supreme Court. If confirmed, Harris would be the first LGBT person and third African American to sit on the Supreme Court.
Harris currently serves as mayor of the Borough of Chatham, an office to which he was elected in November 2011 after serving for seven years as a member of the Borough Council. He also is a counsel at the law firm of Greenberg Traurig, where he has been repeatedly recognized by national publications for his legal work.
“This signals just how far we all have come,” Gov. Christie said in announcing the nominations at the Statehouse in Trenton.
But the New York Times reported that the nomination did not indicate a reversal of Gov. Christie’s opposition to same-sex marriage. The Democrats, who control the Legislature, have made passage of a bill legalizing it their top priority, but the governor has dismissed the proposal as just “a bill like hundreds of bills that are pending in the state Legislature.”
“I’m not someone who changes positions with the grace of a ballerina,” Gov. Christie said. “I wouldn’t be all atwitter in expectation.”
As a hetero who has been married twice since 1979, you guys are nuts to want to legalize your unions with the divorce rate in this country. You have it made in the shade without commitment. Let me tell you that a divorce will destroy you. It takes a very long time to recover from such a break.
Give this guy a test to see how he behaves . There are conservative gays out there, too.
