Barney Frank, 71, announced his engagement to longtime partner Jim Ready, 42, Thursday following a report by New England Cable News.
The couple were engaged in Massachusetts where gay marriage has been legal since 2004.
“I have a partner now,” Frank said in a statement according to the Washington Post. “I’m in love for the first time in my life.”
Frank and Ready met nearly six years ago for a political fundraiser in Maine, Ready’s home state. According to the publication Advocate, Ready is described as a “Todd Palin lookalike and surfing enthusiast.”
The couple has kept a low-profile throughout their relationship and details on their pending nuptials have not yet been announced.
