The San Diego LGBT Community Center is participating in Our Greater San Diego Vision, an effort being billed as an “unprecedented” plan for the future of the greater San Diego region.
Center officials are asking for input from the community.
“We’d like you to participate as well,” read a statement in The Center’s weekly e-newsletter. “You might wonder why this is so important, so take a quick look at what’s at stake.”
According to the statement, reasons why the effort is so important include the fact that, the San Diego region is projected to grow by 1.3 million people; that’s 65 percent during the next 40 years. That is equal to the entire population of the City of San Diego today. The project will answer the question, “Where will the increased populous live, learn, work and play?”
Other issues that will be examined, and upon which The Center’s delegation will exert some influence are local housing costs (the San Diego region’s housing costs are more than twice as high as the U.S. average, according to the statement), and high school graduation. The latter issue is of vital importance, given the fact that one in three local high school students don’t graduate.
