Don’t you love it when the date consists of numbers that line up in a logical way that will only happen once every million years. I seem to go crazy spending money on those days just so that I can write 10/10/10 or 11/11/11 on a bunch of checks.
Local artist and poet Konstant Be has taken this novelty one step further by creating a whole event around the date phenomenon coming up. He has translated Nov. 11, 2011 into 11.11.11 Wish; an event that will bring together 11 visual artists, 11 performers, and 11 vendors to provide some great entertainment, grant some wishes and raise funds for a good cause.
Cute concept aside, Konstant Be and Queen Bee’s Art & Culture Center will be showcasing some of the best, most eclectic talent that San Diego has to offer in what sounds like a jam-packed event. A variety of visual artists will be exhibiting their work while spoken word artists, dancers, singers, songwriters and a comedian take to the Queen Bee’s stage to provide auditory entertainment. The roster of participants includes Jon Nissan, Carrie Ann Hudson, LaDiego Dance Theatre and Ccep J. Dew. But that is just a few of the many local artists participating. Check out the 111111 Web site to find out about them all.
If that isn’t enough a small fashion show has been scheduled to take place half way through the evening. Vendors will be selling jewelry and other designs too.
The show begins at 8 p.m., but Konstant Be has taken his thematic obsession one step further because at 11:11 p.m., everyone still at the Queen Bee will be asked to come together, close their eyes and make a wish. With all the positive energy in the air, maybe a few of them will come true.
There is a door fee for all of this entertainment but a percentage of the take will be donated to the Make A Wish foundation.
