Buick is the quintessential American car. And it’s precisely the iconic Americana image that makes Buick such a perfect fit as this year’s partner at OUT100, a widely-received event promoting humanitarian achievements within the LGBT community. Turns out, the epically conservative mom-car is, refreshingly, gay friendly.
“We are delighted to have the support of such an iconic brand as Buick for OUT’s biggest and most ambitious issue of the year,” said Aaron Hicklin, editor in chief at OUT Magazine. “More importantly, by supporting the OUT100, Buick is also celebrating the men, women, and transgender people that this issue and our event have chosen to honor.”
Buick will present this year’s 2011 Buick OUT100 Humanitarian award. The honors will go to Daniel Hernandez who has been credited with saving the life of Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona-based U.S. Representative who was tragically shot in the head and survived. “We need to celebrate the victories that we’ve had, but also realize that there’s still a lot of work to be done, said Hernandez, “and not everything’s going to be done overnight.”
Craig Bierley, Buick Advertising Director, added: “Buick is proud to sponsor this signature OUT100 event that celebrates the spirit of achievement.”
