The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of San Diego and Imperial Counties is hosting a cocktail party Thursday, Nov. 10 to celebrate more than 90 years of fighting for equal rights for all. The party, called Liberties at Night, will spotlight LGBT equality, and will begin at 7 p.m. at Rich’s, 1051 University Ave. in Hillcrest. Tickets are $35 and include a one-year ACLU membership, entry to the party, a free first drink and appetizers. Tickets are available at aclusandiego.org.
“The ACLU has been the LGBT community’s legal partner in San Diego for decades,” said Stephen Whitburn, LGBT advocate and ACLU board member. “Everyone I know appreciates the ACLU’s tremendous work for equality, and I hope more of us will become members. The cocktail party will be a great way to join the ACLU and support its work.”
The ACLU has taken lead roles in litigating for marriage equality, protecting LGBT students on local campuses and opposing taxpayer subsidies of Boy Scouts discrimination. It also stopped San Diego police from trashing the possessions of homeless people and took on the state for letting school districts charge fees for books.
