Councilmember Todd Gloria will present a check to San Diego’s Storefront homeless shelter for monies raised by Canvas for a Cause in a ceremonial event to be held Nov. 14. Nine volunteers from CFAC have helped to make the money possible. The group of volunteer activists took to the streets Sept. 20 in an effort to raise money for Storefront, San Diego’s only emergency shelter program for homeless youth.

“I am absolutely thrilled to present this check to The Storefront. Our community has really rallied behind this cause. They’ve said loud and clear that we’ve got to do something about the nearly 2,000 teens that are homeless on our streets every day. Thanks to Canvass for a Cause’s fundraising efforts, we were able raise over $1,200 for The Storefront,” said Gloria. In an ongoing effort to help LGBT youth, Gloria has been involved in homeless efforts in San Diego throughout his term as San Diego City Councilman.

“We hoped for $1000, but got $1269,” she said. “At time when funding is being cut from so many sources, it’s important that we do what we can to make up the shortages.”

“We want to be part of the gay community giving back to the larger community,” added Tres Watson, Executive Director of CFAC. “Yes, we do AIDS Walk and raise money for those causes, but after the Haiti earthquake, CFAC volunteers also took to the streets to raise money to help out. We’re happy to raise funds and awareness for a broader range of causes.”

San Diegans are invited to attend the ceremony on Nov. 14 at 9:30 a.m. at CFAC Headquarters, 3705 10th Ave. #3, San Diego, CA 92103.
