The Live and Let Live Alano Club in University Heights (1730 Monroe Ave.) will celebrate Halloween with an LGBT sober dance and prize-awarding costume contest at its clubroom Oct. 29. The event is $5 for Alano Club members or $8 for non-members. The event will begin at 10 p.m. and wrap up at 12:30 a.m.
“We welcome all LGBT folks who support clean and sober living – and that includes family members and friends of people in recovery,” said Gretchen A., who is coordinating the event. The celebration will feature DJ-hosted music, a Mexican-themed array of snacks and a visit by the “The Amazing Santini” fortune teller.
The Halloween festivities will include a unique costume contest with a variety of prizes, including VISA gift cards and boxes of Mrs. See’s chocolates.
“The Amazing Santini”, who is known as ‘The Fortune Teller With X-Ray Vision,’ will be offering private Tarot card readings for a $5 donation. “For a $20 donation ‘The Amazing Santini’ will also read your palm and analyze your handwriting,” stated Dave S., who is chairman of the club’s operations committee. One hundred percent of all donations for fortune-telling will be given to the Alano Club.
The Live and Let Live Alano Club serves over 1,000 people in recovery per month who attend various 12-Step program meetings there. The club is open every day – including holidays – and hosts many special events throughout the year.
“The Club operates on a shoestring and is always in need of financial support from the LGBT community in order to pay the rent on the building, to pay for utilities, insurance and other expenses,” noted Dave S.
