GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) has issued criticism over  MTV’s “Best New Artist” win for Tyler, the Creator – one of the industry’s most controversial, anti-gay rap artists. The disapproval of the win has generated a domino effect of other gay advocacy groups to question MTV’s choice.

The L.A. rapper garnered criticism for his contentious new album dubbed Goblin because lyrics and messages of the production were considered highly anti-gay and discriminatory.

“MTV and other networks should educate viewers about why anti-gay and misogynistic language has no place in the music industry today,” said Herndon Graddick, Senior Director of Programs at GLAAD. “Given Tyler’s history of such remarks, viewers and potential sponsors should refrain from honoring homophobia and in the future look to a more deserving artist.”

Goblin slams the gay lifestyle with over 213 anti-gay slurs.

According to BET, when asked about the album’s anti-gay message, Tyler stated, “I’m not homophobic. I just think f—-t hits and hurts people. It hits. And gay just means you’re stupid. I don’t know, we don’t think about it, we’re just kids. We don’t think about that s—. But I don’t hate gay people.”
