After the controversial video swept the internet, a teenager involved in the transgender beating at a Baltimore McDonald’s pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of first-degree assault in Baltimore County Circuit Court. Teonna Monae Brown, 19, admitted to attacking Chrissy Lee Polis, a 22-year-old transgender, after the woman used the restroom in a Rosedale McDonald’s restaurant. The incident was caught on tape and made internet headlines, including public outrage amongst the LGBT and ally community.
Prosecutors will seek a prison sentence of 10 years with five years suspended, according to The Baltimore Sun.
The other attacker, a 14-year-old girl, was charged in juvenile court, where she will be facing sentencing at a juvenile facility.
“Asking for five years is a good sentence where the person has no prior convictions, and we are very pleased that this case has now been resolved,” said Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger.
According to court records, this may not have been Brown’s first attack. Other reports show Brown had been involved in a confrontation with a woman not long before the attack on Polis at the very same McDonald’s. Nor Brown nor her legal team made any comments about the allegation, but court records indicate the case was dropped because the victim no longer wanted to pursue the case.
