Summer Equality Tour launches from San Diego

Louis J. Marinelli is launching his Summer Equality Tour from San Diego, Aug. 14. Covering 22 cities in 17 states, the tour will educate the public on issues of marriage equality and its effect on society.

“This summer we plan to travel the country from California to Maine to talk about my change of heart on the issue of marriage equality and talk with conservatives and Republicans about why they should support the freedom to marry,” Marinelli said on his organization’s Web site, National Organization for Marriage Equality.

His organization and his tour are in direct response to the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), a conservative anti-marriage equality group. Last year, Marinelli organized the Summer of Marriage Tour to oppose same-sex marriage. He resigned from the organization in April 2011 and is now an outspoken critic of NOM and a self-proclaimed “conservative Republican supporting marriage equality.”

Joining Marinelli on his tour is Kitty Lambert. Kitty and her partner Cheryle were the first same-sex couple to marry July 24 under the new marriage equality law in New York.

“I am proud and thrilled to welcome Kitty to join us … as we travel around the country talking about marriage equality,” Marinelli said.
