Former ‘N Sync front-man and budding Hollywood actor Justin Timberlake publicly acknowledged his support for LGBT rights in a recent interview, expressing excitement over New York’s historic gay marriage legislation and optimism for the future of nationwide marriage equality.

According to E! Online, Timberlake reportedly said that he was “stoked” to learn that New York “had the balls to stand up for what’s right” by voting in favor of marriage equality. He added, “It’s unfortunate that things take a while to progress like this, but it was a great, great victory for equality.”

Timberlake, who has a number of close gay friends, noted his belief that nationwide marriage equality will be a reality in the near future, and explained, “I don’t think it’s going to be tomorrow…but if things keep moving in the direction that they are now, in 10, 20 years, yeah, I believe it will be federally legal.”

The “Friends with Benefits” star, who has faced homosexual accusations in the past, also commented on his easy-going relationship with gay comrades, stating, “I’m a straight male who has male friends who are gay. We don’t have any problem communicating. We don’t have any problem being two guy friends regardless of our difference in sexual orientation.”
