Stuart Milk, co-Founder and President of the Harvey Milk Foundation, recently launched a video endorsing LGBT candidate Bevan Dufty for the San Francisco mayoral race.
In the video, Milk spoke highly of Dufty’s experience, integrity and character, and urged the LGBT community to vote him into office. Milk explained, “Putting Bevan Dufty into the mayor’s seat in San Francisco reaches far beyond the shores of San Francisco – this reaches beyond California and this reaches beyond the nation.”
He elaborated, “We have to put an openly LGBT person of Bevan’s experience, of his caliber, of his passion, and of his wisdom into office. And we kind of get the whole enchilada with Bevan Dufty with [his] experience as an administrator, problem solver and activist all in one.”
If elected mayor, Dufty would be the first openly gay official to hold the office in San Francisco.
Stuart Milk has made a good living as Harvey’s nephew. He resides in Florida, and his endorsement in San Francisco’s politics should not be given that much space in San Diego, let alone in San Francisco. It’s politics as usual… with a few people controlling news that’s not! Stuart’s Foundation has constantly used images of photographers of Harvey’s legacy, without photo credit or compensation, and claim that Stuart’s health is poor. Yet, he has been able to travel the world using his non-profit organization. It’s time to honor those pioneers beside Harvey, who recorded gay history of that era and seldom get credit on too many gay sites.
