Nominations open for 2011 Nicky Awards

Nominations are being accepted from now until July 15 for the 26th annual Nicky Awards, one of the West Coast’s oldest LGBT community awards.

Long considered “the gay Academy Awards of San Diego,” the community-based awards honor and recognize outstanding achievement within the LGBT community. Nominations for the 2011 Nicky Awards are being sought for the more than 40 categories. Anyone can nominate at nickyawards.com.

A nominations party is July 25 at Martinis Above Fourth. The community can start voting Aug. 1.

The awards are being presented Aug. 28 at The Center. The 2011 co-chairs of the Nicky Board of Governors are Lisa Sanders and Allan Spyere, who have promised a fast-paced, exciting evening with great entertainment. Circuit diva Flava and Lady Gaga impersonator Grace Towers are among the entertainers already booked.

Founded in 1975 by Nicole Murray Ramirez, the Nicky Awards have raised thousands of dollars for countless charities and LGBT organizations. This year’s awards show benefits The Center, the Lambda Archives and the Imperial Court.
