Once Upon A Wedding

Everything is sure to be perfect at the Dudley/Do-Wright wedding. The bride, Daisy, and her groom, Davis, are blissfully in love and surrounded by their friends and family. Nothing could possibly go wrong. That is, until the wedding coordinator goes missing along with half of the wedding party and the bride’s parents seem on the verge of divorce!

Mixtape holds those favorite memories from the ’80s with the music of Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Dire Straits, Journey, Paul Simon, The Cure, U2, Amy Grant, Duran Duran, the B52s, Tears for Fears, Billy Joel, Madonna, Sting, Michael Jackson and much, much more. Lamb’s Players Theatre presents a celebration of that most awesome of decades, performed live by a multi-talented cast and San Diego’s hottest band.

Red Hot Babes and Bow Ties!

Bust out your favorite bow tie and kick off your Pride festivities a week early with Red Hot Babes and Bow Ties, a women’s nightclub presented by the Women’s Resource Center. DJ Muse will be in the house, spinning all your favorite hits. Enjoy dancing, mingling, snacks and a no-host bar. Best bow tie wins two free drinks! Tickets are available at the door. A no-host bar will be available, complete with drink specials all night, including $1 kamikaze shots from 6-7 p.m. Women 21 and up are welcome.

A neighborhood block party

Come help HillQuest celebrate the completion of another great book with a true neighborhood block party, at the ninth annual Hop in the ’Hood!

Cornhole will be played throughout the day and keeping the party going will be Mistress of Ceremonies Laura Jane. Entertainment line-up includes Girls Gone Band, Kitten With A Whip, Shawn P. Rohlf & The 7th Day Buskers, Amanda Waggener Band and there will also be karaoke and a DJ. And as a special treat owner Christian Chaffee is bringing a fabulously restored 1914 streetcar from San Diego’s history.

Landscapes of China’s Grand Canal

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego La Jolla presents Emperor’s River: Philipp Scholz Rittermann

which features dramatic landscapes of China’s Grand Canal captured through the lens of celebrated San Diego-based photographer, Philipp Scholz Rittermann. In 2009, Rittermann set out to capture China’s rapidly evolving economy with a study of life along its historic Grand Canal. Rittermann’s panoramic images portray the often jarring contrasts of history and modernity, rural terrain and burgeoning metropolises of this rapidly developing country.

Ultra camp classic!

FilmOut San Diego presents Female Trouble. What better way to kick off San Diego Pride than with a rare screening of John Water’s ultra camp classic charting the life and times of Dawn Davenport, showing her progress from loving schoolgirl to crazed mass murderer – all of which stems from her parents’ refusal to buy her cha-cha heels for Christmas.

If you’ve never seen an early John Water’s film (considered one of his best by fans) with an audience, then you are in for a memorable experience.
