Maren Parusel launches tour in North Park

Maren Parusel and her band

Confession time. I am not the most sophisticated person in the world when it comes to Indy bands, underground bands and local bands. And, embarrassing as it is to admit, I have never been to a concert. Well, I saw Barbra once. But who hasn’t? Paying to hear la Streisand at some massive arena is more of a rite of passage wouldn’t you say? Like a quinceañera.

In any case, I love music and think of it as an ever-changing soundtrack to life and the visual arts. I also love discovering something new, particularly a band, group, performer, voice, genre with an international flavor. Which brings me to Maren Parusel.

Maren Parusel (Mar-N, par-uh-sell), is a singer songwriter from Germany who has been living in the U.S. for five years now. She and her band will be kicking off a national tour right here in San Diego on Thursday night, June 23, 9 p.m. at Bar Pink, 3829 30th St. in North Park. Tickets are $10.

Parusel and her band are launching Artifical Gardens, their first full length CD, an album that comprises 11 songs crafted from Parusel’s life growing up in Germany contrasted with her experiences over the past five years living here in sunny California. I am sure it will be an interesting mash up of tones.

Maren Parusel’s tour begins at Bar Pink in North Park on Thursday, June 23. If you see someone lurking nervously in a corner like a concert virgin, that would be me. Come say hello.
