Applications for Equality California (EQCA) Institute’s Leadership Academy (EQCAI) in 2018 are now open.
One of EQCAI’s priorities is to develop LGBTQ leaders at all levels of government and business throughout the state. EQCA is proud to have launched the Leadership Academy, generously sponsored by Edison International.
The EQCAI Leadership Academy is an innovative program to foster the next generation of LGBTQ leaders in California. In its first year, the Academy has prepared 75 LGBTQ leaders from across the state through our specially designed programming to run for office and seek appointments to state, municipal and private sector boards and commissions.

To be accepted into the program, previous EQCA fellows have displayed a history of accomplishments in their respective careers, as well as had a proven track record of advocacy and civic engagement with LGBTQ-related issues. Due to this year’s success with the program, EQCA is excited to announce that EQCAI will be accepting applications for the 2018 class of Leadership Academy Fellows.
The upcoming Southern California cohort will be engaged in a two-day intensive training academy provided by current elected and appointed public officials as well as EQCAI staff, and each fellow will be matched with a professional mentor throughout the program year. Additionally, EQCA fellows’ credentials will be included in a “resource bank” of LGBTQ leaders that EQCAI will use to advocate for their placement in appointed positions.
For the Southern California cohort, EQCA will be accepting applications from residents in the following counties: Imperial, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura.
