SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Former San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis has entered the race for County Supervisor. The registrar of voters office processed a Candidate Intention Statement Tuesday that was submitted by Dumanis.
Dumanis faces former Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher in the June primary, along with fellow Democrats Lori Saldaña, Omar Passons and Ken Malbrough.
Fletcher received a boost Tuesday when the Central Area Caucus of the San Diego Democratic Central Committee voted overwhelmingly to recommend his endorsement.
“Former District Attorney Dumanis has a controversial record that would make her a poor fit for County Supervisor,” said Will Rodriguez-Kennedy, President of the San Diego Democrats for Equality. “From prosecuting people of color with a controversial and unconstitutional guilt-by-association legal theory, to taking illegal foreign contributions, to subverting the democratic process to anoint her hand chosen successor in a series of backroom deals, to allegedly
intimidating political opponents. Dumanis has turned her law enforcement career into a demonstration of cruel, backroom dealing, above-the-law politics. Our club has joined a broad coalition of progressive, Democratic and community leaders who have endorsed Nathan Fletcher for this seat, and we encourage all San Diegans to support him for this seat.”
Dumanis, the first openly gay district attorney in the country, resigned July 7.
SORRY gays & trans but this crooked “Judge” needs to go tend to her poor health and enjoy her excessive pension. She is persona non grata in SD politics because she consorted with & accepted illegal bribes from a cartel, I mean, Mexican “businessman,” who is now headed to prison for his trouble. We plan to make sure voters in 2018 are reminded of this constantly. Stick a fork in Dumanis. She is done.
