Nicole Murray Ramirez honored by government of Canada

Aug. 25, San Diego City Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez was honored by the government of Alberta, Canada for his over 45 years of exceptional leadership and activism with the LGBTQ community in North America.

“I have had the honor of working with LGBT Canadian activists since the 1970s,” said Murray Ramirez. “In 1969 while we LGBT Americans were rioting at Stonewall the prime minister was signing a non-discrimination federal bill protecting LGBT Canadians. We indeed have much to learn from our northern sisters and brothers.”

Murray Ramirez is pictured on the steps of the capitol building with the government whip of the legislative Assembly the Honorable Estefania Cortes-Vargas and Assemblymember Michael Connolly, the first elected LGBT officials in Alberta.
