SAN DIEGO, Calif. — YWCA of San Diego County will present the 10th annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” fundraising walk Saturday, Oct. 14. Men, alongside women and children, are invited to walk a mile in heels through downtown San Diego County to increase awareness of domestic violence in the community and help end the pervasive issue once and for all. Individuals and teams will compete to raise funds for survivors and children overcoming domestic violence in YWCA programs.
Registration is $50 for adults, $30 for students and children, and $150 for a family package (heels optional). Tickets include access to all event festivities, an official event t-shirt and tote bag. Following the walk, participants will celebrate their achievement with entertainment, food, partner booths, and family friendly activities for all ages.
1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men experience domestic violence in their lifetime. In San Diego County, 16,719 incidents were reported to law enforcement in 2016, although the majority of cases are never reported due to the complex dynamic of violence within abusive relationships. Proceeds from “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” will benefit YWCA of San Diego County and its Becky’s House® domestic violence programs, which encompass a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, transitional housing, legal assistance, and integrated supportive services.
