SAN DIEGO, Calif. — In conjunction with The Equality March for Unity and Pride planned in Washington, D.C. and several other marches around the country, The Equality March: San Diego is being organized for Sunday, June 11.
Community members will gather at 10 a.m. in Balboa Park at 6th Ave and Juniper St. and will step off to march at 11 a.m., and end at the southwest end of the County Administration Building on Pacific Highway at 12 noon for a rally.
The San Diego LGBT Community Center and San Diego Pride who are hosting the march have issued the following guiding principles.
1) We are not going back, we’re going forward to claim the rights that all people should enjoy. Those rights are equal rights, not special rights. Never again will we be made invisible, and we will not allow any member of our community to be marginalized.
2) This event is centered on the civil rights of all members of the LGBTQIA community. Our community includes people of all ages, races, religions, abilities, political opinions, nationalities and immigration statuses. When one of us is denied equal rights, all of us must unite to protect and support each other. We invite all allies of the LGBTQIA community to come together with us in solidarity.
3) This is a peaceful march and rally, but we will be heard by those in power in Washington, DC., in Congress, the White House and around the globe.
*Marchers are welcome to join at any point along the route.
**Supporters who prefer to skip the marching portion can meet at the southwest end of the County Admin Building. An ASL area will be designated near the front of our the rally point.
