Everyone in the San Diego area knows the history of Carl DeMaio and me; I have never been a supporter because of his political views. I successfully helped derail his campaign for mayor and Congress simply by stating facts or highlighting inappropriate behavior by people in his campaigns. I completely disagree with DeMaio’s decision to recall State Sen. Josh Newman based upon his vote to raise gas taxes and other fees to improve infrastructure in California. But I also disagree with the California Democratic Party tactics to try to derail DeMaio and his recall efforts.
The newly elected gay California Democratic Party Chair, Eric Bauman, has allowed false accusations about DeMaio to be repeated as part of the effort to derail the Newman recall campaign. Accusations that have been adjudicated in a court of law and found to be false. Democrats are better than this. In one fell swoop, Bauman has sunk the California Democratic Party to the level generally reserved for the Republican Party.
Of course, DeMaio has selected the recall district of Newman for a reason; Newman only won by 2,500 votes in the battleground district. DeMaio is once again doing the bidding for the California and National Republican Party. That does not mean that his reputation needs to be smeared by accusations that are untrue. I wrote about the accusations contemporaneously but post my comments and editorials, the accusations were proven to be false. DeMaio supporters believe the accusations helped derail his congressional campaign, which may be true. I am sure DeMaio on his radio show must be railing against the concerns about Comey and Russia’s interference in the recent presidential election. Right.
The difference between other political pundits and me is I call a spade a spade, regardless of party. Carl DeMaio does not deserve to be treated unfairly by republishing and spreading accusations against him that have been proven to be untrue. Truth counts regardless of party. California Democratic Party Chair Eric Bauman should be ashamed of himself. This is no way to lead the Democratic Party. DeMaio, if you read this article without fainting due to my support of you on this issue, you’re welcome.
