The 6th Annual San Diego Surf Film Festival (SDSFF) builds momentum year after year due to its incredible event schedule and film lineup. The SDSFF returns through May 13 with its headquarters at Misfit Gallery in La Jolla and once again offers a very ambitious program. Festival highlights include over 25 of the finest international surf films, a Skip Frye Lifetime Tribute, filmmaker meet and greets, Grant Ellis (Surfing Magazine photo editor) slideshow, live art brewery party, beach clean-ups and surfing expression sessions.

The Vietnam War is a ten-part, 18-hour documentary film series directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick that will air on PBS in September 2017. A free screening of selections from The Vietnam War takes place today May 16 at the Balboa Theatre. The Vietnam War features testimony from nearly 100 witnesses, including many Americans who fought in the war and others who opposed it.

Duncan McCosker, A Memorial Exhibition

Duncan McCosker (1944-2016) was born in Glendale, Calif. and taught photography at the University of San Diego from the early 1980s until last year. For decades, McCosker meticulously documented the Del Mar County Fair, the beaches of San Diego County, and the tourist zones of Paris. This memorial exhibition – organized, in part, by USD art history students – will survey forty years of this talented photographer’s work.
