World OutGames Miami to present ‘Pulse Points’ June 1 as lead cultural event

MIAMI, Fla. World OutGames Miami 2017, a 10-day global event that will bring to life three significant pillars of Sports, Culture and Human Rights, will present Pulse Points, an artistic response to the Orlando massacre at Pulse Nightclub from 6 pm to 10 pm on June 1, 2017 at the New World Center, 500 17th Street, Miami Beach. This experiential memorial will fuse elements of dance, poetry, music and visual arts with 49 artistic expressions in remembrance of the 49 lives lost one year ago.

“World OutGames celebrates unity and inclusiveness, and we are proud to present Pulse Points as an artistic tribute to a tragic time in history,” said World OutGames Miami Director of Cultural Arts Carol Coombes. “This will be a space free of racism and bias that will transform negativity into a courageous forward direction, sending a global message of compassion, hope and love.”

Pulse Points will touch World OutGames Miami attendees, patrons and guests in an unprecedented way as an act of social courage. This fully-immersive event will transform the iconic New World Center into an interactive, roving exhibition, offering a perpetual expression of reflection, empathy, healing and positive action.

Curated by Octavio Campos and Cameron Basden, Pulse Points will unite as many as 200 artists from all different genres who will pay their respects and pay it forward. Guests will enjoy special performances by the Orlando Gay Chorus plus experience other participating artists: Adora, Fushu Daiko, Dale Andree, Diana Garlee, Ray Sullivan, Oscar Fuentes, Sandra Portal-Andreu, Karelle Levy, Mosaic Dance Project, Ana Mendez, Fred Fejas, Pioneer Winter, Kandi & Rollin Stirman, Octavio Campos, Camposition, Dance NOW! Miami, Antonia Wright, David Rohn, Augosto Soledade Brazzdance (ASBD), Labomamo, Carl Hildebrand, Natasha Tsakos, Miami Gay Men’s Chorus, Reading Queer, Ceci Fernandez, Rick Delgado, Gio Profera and James Cubby.

Tickets (including applicable fees) are available at www.outgames.org/culture/pulse_points/pulse_points: $29 for seniors, students and City of Miami Beach residents with valid ID, $40 for general admission and $140 for VIP access, which includes an intimate rooftop cocktail reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Individual and corporate sponsorship opportunities are available through World OutGames CEO Ivan Cano at icano@outgames.org.

From May 26 through June 4, 2017, World OutGames Miami attendees will compete in a plethora of sports challenges, attend a three-day human rights conference with significant speakers and enjoy a series of cultural exchanges. In addition to Pulse Points, there will be other cultural happenings such as Icons of the Bay, Jewels of Downtown Miami, Wynwood Arts District: Inside & Out and Dance NOW! Miami Presents Out. Takes a Village, People World OutGames Main Village at Lummus Park, Miami Beach’s oceanfront park, will host activities, vendors and entertainment offerings.
